Lucas Cooke has taken on a challenge for Comic Relief Red Nose Day!

At just 7 years old, Lucas decided he wanted to bring smiles back to people’s faces in town, and to help those who are living incredibly hard lives, by supporting the Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day.

Radio Wymondham spoke to Lucas who has been visiting town everyday dressed in a new fancy dress costume, aiming to bring a little smile to everyone’s day and raise some vital pennies for the charity too.

And young Lucas has certainly achieved that, bringing many smiles, both in-person and online, to the people of Wymondham and beyond!

What was expected to raise just a few pounds had already raised almost £300 in just the first seven days, and now, at the end of his month-long campaign, he’s raised over £2000 for Comic Relief – an incredible effort from Lucas.

We saw costumes from Hogwarts featuring the Slytherin House and from a galaxy far, far away with a Storm Trooper and Kylo Ren, Lucas was also spotted hanging from the Market Cross as Spider-Man as well as being a monster and Lucas has even been an ace pilot with his own Red Arrows plane!  Mum Caroline was responsible for putting the costume collection together and she’s obviouisly been busy, with some of them created by reusing previously made costumes for Halloween!

Much like the characters he dressed as, Lucas himself is becoming something of a local celebrity, receiving many likes and positive comments on the ‘Heart’ Wymondham Facebook group. Lucas said he’s even been recognised by people in town who’ve seen him on the internet and, as well as appearing on Radio Wymondham, his fund-raising endeavours were covered by BBC Radio Norfolk and the Eastern Daily Press.

In our exclusive interview from the start of the campaign, you’ll hear about some of the costumes that were planned and exactly why Lucas took on this challenge!

We’ll be back with Lucas now that  the challenge is over so that we can get him to reveal the final grand total that he’s raised for Comic Relief!
